Ground source: fluid circulates through buried polythene pipe (~28 W per metre of pipe); ground area ≈ 2.5× the building footprint. New-build only; needs Building Control approval.
Air source: no groundwork (lower cost); best with air 8-17 °C; can run in reverse for cooling. Not suitable for high-rise.
Water source: a glycol-filled collector is sunk into a deep lake or watercourse close to the building.
